Safe Celebrations Only: Otuoke Youth Council Clarifies Signing-Out Rules
Following the earlier news on final-year signing-out activities ban in Otuoke, the Students’ Union Government (SUG), led by Comrade Tareware Tamarau-ebi Rex, alongside his executives and other student leaders, met with the Otuoke Community leadership to seek a peaceful resolution.
After productive deliberations, The Otuoke Community has clarified that students were never stopped from celebrating. The earlier information suggesting a total ban on signing-out activities was a wrong narrative. The community’s position is centered on student safety, peace and security, while allowing students to celebrate responsibly.
Students are reminded to celebrate responsibly and observe the following:
✅ Students, including indigenes of Otuoke, are free to wear their white. Friends can sign on their clothes. ✅ Parents and well-wishers are welcome to come and celebrate with their children/wards. ✅ Celebrations are permitted in rented compounds, hostels, churches, and approved bars/venues within Otuoke.
🚫 No vehicular movement on the major road during signing-out activities. 🚫 Cult-related activities are strictly prohibited. 🚫 No processions within the Otuoke Community. 🚫 No rallies or street demonstrations of any kind. 🚫 No unauthorised gathering of groups within the community. ✅ All signing-out activities must be conducted peacefully, orderly, and responsibly, as maintaining peace and security remains the highest priority.
The community has also warned that defaulters will be apprehended and dealt with accordingly.
Special commendations to Comrade Tareware Tamarau-ebi Rex, the SUG executives and all student leaders involved for their swift intervention and commitment to protecting students’ interests.
A special appreciation also goes to the Otuoke Youth Council for engaging with student representatives and working towards a peaceful resolution.
To our FYB: Celebrate responsibly. Sign out safely. Make the memories count! 🎓❤️
